Skirts :The New Royalty

We cannot begin to tell you how much we love skirts but we can show you. First a brief history of skirts… in the 1800s, the word skirt was a slang for women. ( Serena Altschul, CBS Sunday morning news).

Surprised right?? A skirt can be defined as the separate outer garment of an outfit covering the wearer from the waist downwards. It could be high waist or low waist. According to CBS news (chasing the history of skirts by Valerie Steel), the skirt is one of the oldest garments in the history of mankind. For hundreds of years, women wore skirts even though skirts haven’t always been for women alone.

In ancient times both men and women wore skirts. Today, a skirts design is all about personal style and preference. But not so long ago, long skirts were the in thing. For years, a long skirt was the very definition of luxury. This was because fabrics were so expensive. Long/flowing skirts were worn mostly as a matter of modesty, prestige, status, and beauty.

Skirts are more flexible when it comes to dressing up, skirts can be worn to any occasion whatsoever. It is true a lot of people think that skirts are not commonly worn like jeans or little dresses but the right styles in your wardrobe can make you want to get dressed up as quick as possible

Over time, skirts have evolved both in styles and pattern. Just as men have left the waist down garment for us, there have come to be different types and styles of skirts. To emphasize the purpose of this article we will only be highlighting a few amongst many types of skirts with some optics to inspire your style.

The A-line skirt

This style of skirt is particularly tight at the waist while emphasizing the hips and then flared at the bottom. The A line skirt could be knee length, calf length or ankle length. The A-line skirt doesn’t necessarily go well with petite women. It is best worn with heels and boots for formal or casual wears.

FishTail Skirt

This style is fitted at the waist, fuller around the hips, narrow at the knees and flared at the heels. Fishtail skirt is also known as mermaid skirts. They are fun, dressy and formal depending on the styling.

Flared skirt

This is similar to the A-line skirt except they flare out towards the bottom. They can be any length depending on preference. They are also semi-dressy, dressy, or formal depending on the fabric used.

Pencil skirt

pencil skirts are usually form fitting knee length. They are usually straight cut and hug the legs closely. Because of this, they are difficult to walk in. they are dressy and formal.

Pleated skirt

If these styles do not redefine your definition of gorgeous? we wonder what will??…Pleated skirts have vertical pleats running up and down the skirt all the way around. When there is movement, the skirt appears to open up. These either reach to the knee or above the knee, and they require regular ironing. Pleated skirts are casual or semi-dressy.

Mini Skirt

Mini skirts are very short and are usually long enough to reach between the crotch and the knees. They are casual or semi-dressy. In dressy or formal settings, they can be inappropriate OR NOT lol…

Straight Skirt

Straight skirts are fitted at the waist and hips, but then fall in a straight line down so that they are loose at the knees. They are similar to the pencil skirt only they are less tight. These are casual, dressy, or formal depending on the fabric.

Tube Skirt

Tube skirts are very similar to pencil skirts. The main difference is that they are made with stretchy materials and they usually reach just below the knees. These are semi-casual or semi-dressy.

Peplum Hem Skirt

Peplum hems are so on trend this season and are great for teaming with a fitted shirt tucked in or a printed tee. Add a splash of color with accessories, a handbag and ankle strap heels. And if this combination doesn’t not make you the best-dressed female in the room, then something is wrong.

High-low skirt

If you truly want to make a statement and be unforgettable nothing answers like the classy look of a high-low skirt. High-lows are seriously invoked and trendy. They are all time classy and specially founded for petite women lol. If you don’t have a high-low skirt in your closet? Then you don’t have a closet lol.

Maxi Skirt

Maxi skirts are a must-have separate for day or night. Hot weather or cold, black-tie or laid-back, no matter the occasion, there’s a long skirt that can fit the bill.

Asymmetric Skirt

Asymmetric skirts are not just flirty but chicky in the ways the curve out at the delicate corners, giving the body the perfect definition. There can be 100% dressy and dressed down depending on the styling and shoes worn with.

Wrap Skirt

Wrap skirts are all shades of sexy and gorgeous. If you are looking for the classic chicky sexy go girl appeal, a wrap skirt styled with a loose off-shoulder Chiffon blouse or a silk statement blouse can always come in handy.
